Being a doula is about holding space. Safe space. Sacred space. It is a wonderfully vast and profound and ancient well of nurturing.
Being a doula means belonging to an age-old tradition of community healing.
That is what being a doula means to me.
A little about me…
Many moons ago, I was set on embarking the midwifery path, awestruck by its powerful history and the healing hands that continue to catch so many babies earthside. It was on this path that I stumbled onto an age-old tradition of support and nurturing: that of being in service as a doula. I quickly realized that my heart lay elsewhere—not in the medical career I admire so but in the tending to families in the depths of their vulnerability.
To be a doula is to be many things. A keen eye. A listening ear. A pair of gentle hands to soothe and hearten. It is also about being a container, one in which joys and heartaches and sacred transitions are witnessed and honoured.
As a postpartum doula, I recognize that birth is not a culmination but rather a gateway to your parental journey. The postnatal period is a vulnerable time, and the new parent deserves to be seen, to be heard, and to be cared for in ways that resonate. It is my role to provide said support as you integrate the transformational shifts of new parenthood. Together, we can build a postpartum experience that fulfills and honours your needs as well as those of the entire family.
